The Media Library or “Panopto” tool enables instructors to upload audio and video files to their Canvas course sites for sharing with enrolled students.
How To Add Panopto Media Library to Canvas
In most cases, if you have requested Lecture Capture, Online Movies, and/or are using Zoom for your Canvas site, the Media Library will be active in your course. If you don’t see the Media Library on the left navigation of your Canvas site, you may activate the tool following the directions below.
Log in to canvas.brown.edu
Select the course for which you’d like to add Media Library
Click Settings in the Course Navigation menu
Click the Navigation tab along the top of the Settings page
- Drag the Media Library from the bottom section to the top section in the Course Navigation menu to enable it
- Click Save
The Media Library will now display in the Canvas Site Navigation Column.
By default, instructors and TAs are the only users who can upload and add content; students may only view the content shared in Media Library.
If you would like to enable student uploading for assignments, you can create an Assignments Folder
How To Create an Assignments Folder in Panopto
- Open the Media Library in Canvas
- Click the three dots and then the settings button
- Once the overview window opens, the Create Assignment Folder button to generate the assignments folder
The folder is automatically created as name of course [assignments] and can be deleted at any time by Instructor.
- The folder will now appear on the main course folder page and will appear as an option for students when uploading video and audio content on a computer or in the mobile app
One assignment folder can be created for every folder and/or subfolder.
