Before you publish your syllabus, you will need to add it to your Canvas site. Below are the steps to create a version of your syllabus in Canvas or upload your existing syllabus file to Canvas for students to access.
Your Canvas Syllabus will not appear in CAB. To add your syllabus to CAB, please follow the steps in our help article on How Do I Upload My Syllabus to Coursetools?
Creating Your Syllabus in Canvas
This is the RECOMMENDED method to ensure content is accessible and viewable on mobile devices.
- Click Syllabus in the Course Navigation menu on the left.
- Click Edit on the upper right hand of the page.
- On the edit screen, copy & paste your basic course information in the Rich Text Editor.
- Rich Text Editor: Allows you to enter text, upload files, and include links to external resources
- Click Update Syllabus at the bottom of the page.
Useful information to include on your syllabus page might include:
Brief course description
Office hours
Location
Contact information
Directions for students about navigating the course site (i.e. where to find readings, assignments, and other resources)
Images
Uploading Your Prepared Syllabus File
PDF preferred is the preferred file format
- Click Syllabus in the Course Navigation menu on the left.
- Click Edit on the upper right hand of the page.
- On the edit screen, click on the Insert menu, select Document, and then select Upload Document.
- In the pop-up, either drag and drop the file onto the designated area, or click on the upload icon to browse for and select your syllabus file.
- Once the file is uploaded in the pop-up, click the Submit button.
- The link to the uploaded file will now appear in the Rich Content Editor. You can add additional information in the editor if you desire.
- When you are done, click the Update Syllabus button.
