How Do I Create a Quiz Using New Quizzes?

Updated on

You can create a quiz using New Quizzes from the Quizzes page. You can create various types of content in each quiz.

Eventually, New Quizzes will replace Classic Quizzes, and there will be more communication on that transition once the timeline is fully established.

How to Create a Quiz Using New Quizzes

The New Quizzes platform allows faculty to develop comprehensive assessments with enhanced functionality and diverse question types. This guide will walk you through the complete process of creating a quiz using the New Quizzes tool.

Expand or collapse content 1. Accessing the Quiz Creation Interface
  1. Begin by selecting the Quizzes link from your course navigation menu. Alternatively, you can access quiz creation through the Assignments page if that better fits your workflow.
  1. When prompted, select New Quizzes as your preferred assessment platform. (To streamline future quiz creation in this course, check the option to remember your choice. This will automatically default to New Quizzes for subsequent assessments.)
  2. Confirm your selection by clicking Submit.
  3. Click the Add Quiz button to begin creating your new assessment.

You can modify your quiz engine preference at any time through the Quiz Options menu.

Expand or collapse content 2. Enter Basic Quiz Information
  1. Submit the name of the quiz in the Quiz Title box.
  2. Set the total points possible for the assessment.

It's important to understand how points are calculated:

  • The total points you set here represents the overall assignment value
  • Individual question points determine correctness scoring
  • Final grades are calculated as a percentage of correct answers applied to your total points
  • Example: A 50-point quiz with 10 questions (1 point each) where a student answers 9 correctly = 90% × 50 = 45 points
  1. Select the appropriate assignment group from the dropdown menu and choose how grades will be displayed to students.

If this assessment should not impact final course grades, check the option to exclude it from grade calculations.

For assessments worth zero points (such as practice quizzes), you can choose whether to display results in the gradebook or student grade views.

For surveys, students will automatically receive full credit once they take the survey.

If your quiz is graded, select the assignment group in which to score the quiz in the Assignment Group menu.

Expand or collapse content 3. Establish Assign To Perameters

Configure who can access the assessment by assigning it to specific students, groups, or the entire class. Set appropriate due dates and availability windows to control when students can complete the quiz.

  • Save: Preserves your settings as a draft for future editing
  • Save & Publish: Makes the assessment immediately available to assigned students
Expand or collapse content 5. Develop Assessment Content
