How Do I Access and Download a Turnitin Report?

Updated on

Turnitin is a tool that compares student papers with a vast array of online sources and paper repositories and returns a detailed report on similarities.

Turnitin can only be used within Canvas via student-submitted papers through assignments. The Turnitin website cannot be used directly for generating reports. When you are setting up your assignments, you can select Turnitin as your Plagiarism Review tool.

How to Access and Download a Turnitin Report

  1. Log in to Canvas at canvas.brown.edu.

  2. Select your course in the Global Navigation menu on the left.

  3. Click the Grades tab and locate your Turnitin Assignment

  4. Click the colored flag icon to the right of the assignment to open your Similarity Report on Turnitin in a new tab.

    1. The color of the flag (green, yellow, or red) will correspond with the percentage of the material the similarity report has found associated with the submission.

  1. Once in the Turnitin platform, click on the originality report icon to view the match breakdown of a specific assignment.
  1. Alternatively, click the download icon to save the "current view" originality report to your desktop.

Turnitin grades will not sync with the Canvas grade book. The grade will have to be manually entered into the grade book for your course.
