Great question! As of May 11, 2027, active Canvas course sites and materials must meet the Accessibility requirements as outlined in the draft policy. In preparation for the Summer term and beyond we are directing instructors to this course accessibility landing page to access resources

The three key actions for instructors to do to make their courses accessible are:

  1. Run Pope Tech
    • Pope Tech is an accessibility checker in Canvas, scans courses for accessibility issues and guides one through the remediation process
  2. Leverage the Course Accessibility Checklist
    • This checklist provides detailed information about how to make course materials and media accessible
  3. Update course syllabi

We need instructors to take individual responsibility for making their courses accessible, but they are encouraged to request help by emailing DLD or scheduling a Digital Accessibility Consultation.

No problem! If you have an urgent Canvas issue, Canvas provides Brown with 24/7 support via chat (choose from the Help menu in Canvas) or phone (833-761-6970). You can find additional information in the Brown Canvas Help Guides.
